Dubai Economy Report 2015

The Dubai Economic Council (DEC) is pleased to release issue 4 of its flagship annual report series "Dubai Economy 2015". The report aims at giving a broad account of economic developments in the emirate of Dubai over the course of an entire year.

The current issue of the report reviews the most important developments in Dubai's economy throughout the year 2014, at the macro and sectoral levels. The report adopts a benchmarking methodology, comparing economic performance in Dubai to that in some countries with similar economic structure/characteristic to evaluate the developments in the emirate's economy and explore its future prospects.

The report consists of ten chapters. It begins with a detailed review of developments in the most important macroeconomic variables such as economic growth and inflation, monetary and fiscal developments including interest rates, exchange rates and public finance. The report then highlights the present developments in key sectors of Dubai’s, including the financial sector, foreign trade, tourism, manufacturing, real estate, energy, transport and communications, as well as social indicators such as population, health, and education. Additionally, the report reviews some of the most important topical issues, including the recent changes in the world oil markets and their impacts on Dubai's economy in particular and the UAE in general.

Perhaps the most important advantage of this report over similar statistical and economic reports is that, in addition to its comprehensiveness, it contains solid analyses of the most important developments in Dubai's economy and predictions about some of the economic indicators using objective and scientific methods.

The report was prepared by a team of DEC experts in the various topics discussed in the report.

Finally, we hope that this report would be used by decision-makers in the public and private sectors as an important reference to support the decision-making process, designing public policy, drawing appropriate plans and strategies, and eventually contributing to the promotion of sustainable development in Dubai. We also hope that you find this book useful and an added value to the UAE, GCC and Arab library.
